Creative Friends Together - Mixed Media Art Worship Journal Process

I had fun yesterday working on catching up on my The Documented Life Project Art Journal and the Week 4 prompts were just too perfect for journaling about Truth Scrap.

Last year, I used Wednesdays as a workflow day for creating pocket pages. While I loved writing those tutorials and getting all the information together, I am not doing pocket pages on a weekly basis anymore and have been more focused on art worship and mixed media art journaling.

However, I still have Workflow Wednesday on my blog calendar, and I will instead be sharing my process for creating my mixed media Art Worship pages rather than the pocket pages approach. This is where my heart is right now, teaching and inspiring with my #ARTWORSHIP.

So, let's walk through this page with me, a page about my experience with Truth Scrap using the prompts from The Documented Life Project. For Week 4, the art challenge was "writing" and the journal prompt was "words with friends". Could this be more perfect for journaling about Truth Scrap?!?!?!

First, I taped the center of the page to prevent seeping through the binding. I then took gesso and spread it around with a palette knife to add some texture and cover up the tape and paint from other pages.

After it dried, I grabbed my journaling pen and just started messy journaling. I LOVE messy journaling. It was just a time for me to talk to God and write without anyone being able to read what I had to say, especially my insecurties about stepping out of my comfort zone.

Then, using matte medium, I glued down some tissue paper pieces over the top.

I wanted to add some color, so I grabbed some of my deli paper that I had dipped into the watery drips from my Week 3 page. I love the water color look of it... The black splotch was me testing some homemade spray paints.

To tone down the black and blend things in better, I went over it with a thin coat of gesso and used my palette knife to get some thicker areas for texture.

Then I wanted to add in more color so I added a cobalt teal glaze over the big white space and the corners and edges.

To finish it up, I added some stickers and stamping for my sentiment and title. To make the word stickers not so stark white, I drew around each of them with my pen and while it was still wet smeared it slightly.

This may be my new favorite page and I'm totally going to do more messy journaling on my pages! I really love the texture it left and love how you can still see some of it peeking out from behind the deli paper and tissue paper.
