May 2014 - Week 19 in my weekly scrapbook album

One of my favorite things about vacation is all the photos from the week. That means, I usually have so many photos that I need to include an insert. Since this week starts on the right side of the album instead of the left side, I didn't want to split up the week with a two page spread that was back-to-back instead of facing each other. That meant using an insert and squeezing a ton of photos in it.

I was excited because the photos from the week before we went on vacation fit perfectly on a Design H page protector, that left a Design A and Design H two page spread for the vacation photos. It turned out perfectly.

First, I wanted to show you an up close photo of how I altered this card. I received an affiliate welcome gift from Simon Say Stamps over the weekend and I couldn't wait to play with the goodies. I'm seriously in LOVE with the ink pads, the yummy stamps and the coordinating die cut. This may be my new favorite pocket card and I can't wait to share with you the techniques I used to create this card.

I used the rest of my ink puddles and my finger the smear some ink on the other cards and some yummy washi tape to finish it off this page.

Also, the quote card is from CD Muckosky's new printable set, Life In Color. I really love this set so much. It's so "me", and all I have to do is print and journal and add photos. I love everything about this page.

To bring in the bit of orange from the washi tape, I used an orange label from Simple Stories.

After taking this photo, I added some more of the washi tape in the top card which you can see above, and a little bit behind the label in the photo of Moriah on the nature scavenger hunt.

All the greens and blues just seem so fitting for the nature hunt and the bike ride along the lake. Most of my album is oranges and warm colors, but I may just have to add in some more greens and blues again, now that spring is here again.

Can I tell you how happy I am that spring is here and we can get outside a bit more. This past winter was seriously BRUTAL!!! I'm so ready for spending out days enjoying the sun and greenery and blooms outside more on our new bikes and at the playgrounds.

This is a close up of the finished card from the mixed tutorial from last week, mixing Gelatos with gel medium and using a stencil to create a pattern.

I sprayed some ink sprays to create the green background, and then used my Amy Tangerine Yes, Please Slick Writers to color in some of the flowers and my journaling pens to doodle around the pattern to make it pop.

Lastly, I added some washi tape, some left over paper, labels, stickers and a brad to finish it off. I can totally see myself using this technique over and over again.

For the rest of the page, I used some of my pre-made cards that I had in my "rainbow" container to anchor the boys photos. I've always said that Isaac is my rocker dude and Asher is my football dude just based on their build... but these photos totally confirm my theories and made me giggle a little bit with their poses.

I used the back side of the bottom card from the other side for the bottom pocket. I rubbed in some Gelatos to fill in the card since it was a black/white card. I stamped some more stamps inside the heart and added some embellishments from my "rainbow" container.

I can't tell you how nice it is to have my stash organized by colors. It makes it so easy to pull out the colors I need and use up my old stash. I'm actually saving money with this organization since I'm not buying stuff that I think I need.

The rest of the weekend I squeezed onto the Design A page. This page was mostly the new printables from CD Muckosky, Life In Colors.

The bottom right card was a card from the Midnight Core Kit.

I rubbed in some Gelatos all over the card. Since the sky was pretty grey that day, I altered the photos and by rubbing in blue Gelatos to color the sky and lake water. This was a technique I learned at Studio Calico in the Mixed Media class and I seriously LOVE how it turned out and made the photos really pop. I could see myself coloring grey skies a lot in the future! OK, this might be my new favorite... I have a lot of new favorites this week, LOL.
