Art Journaling Bible Tutorial: Using Fabric Interfacing Without the Fabric

I know, the title doesn't make sense, but I can tell you, you're going to love this tutorial because you can use interfacing for so much more than just to adhere to fabric. I had a blast with this and I'm so excited to do this more often.

Last weekend, I was on a scrapbook retreat with some friends. Everyone else was scrapbooking, but I was painting. I had a blast painting on deli paper and the paper part of some fabric interfacing.

Here's the cool thing about fabric interfacing. It's basically paper with an adhesive backing. I like this better though because the adhesive isn't affected by the wet media, so you can still iron it onto another piece of paper after you've painted on the fabric.

A couple Sunday's ago my church's message was all about how Saul chose fear and David chose faith. David became stronger and Saul became envious. I thought this cut file was just perfect for cutting out letters to use on an art journal page to tip in to my Bible.

I grabbed some of my painted interfacing and deli paper. I cut the deli paper down to use as a background as I did a couple weeks ago. I then cut down some of the interfacing and added it to my cutting mat.

I opened up the cutting file, right-clicked and chose "ungroup" so that I could delete the outer edge.

I then put the letters on top of the deli paper, covered it with another piece of deli paper and iron the letters on.

LESSONS LEARNED: The small letters and decorations ended up separating from the adhesive and I couldn't iron them on and used glue to place them down. The key to getting both pieces off the mat is using your hook to grab both the adhesive and paper together.

I don't like to waste anything so I then ironed on the rest of it on a piece of white cardstock. I filled in the middles of letters with pen and I'm going to frame it. I seriously love how they both turned out! This is definitely going up in my room as a reminder of how important it is to choose faith rather than fear.
