Mixed Media heART Journaling Bible: Covering and Decorating

I found my new favorite project!!! In all my almost 41 years, I never knew there was such a thing as a journal Bible. My friend Shanna Noel started doing art journaling in her Bible and a lightbulb totally hit me. Why is it that for years I always felt guilty doodling and scrapbooking in my Bible?

Many of you know too, that I have ADHD and was diagnosed about three years ago. My therapy was to bring a sketchbook with me to church and not be afraid to doodle and sketch. WOW, you have no idea how crazy it was that for the first time I was able to actually hear the message. I found that I had to be doing something with my hands in order to focus. So, the past few years I've been drawing in my sketchbook and art journals on Sunday mornings.

Shanna started a Facebook Journaling Bible group and we've been sharing our projects and I've been pinning inspiration and I just have to say WOW, WOW, WOW!!! I finally saw that I could do all this doodling and sketching actually INSIDE my Bible! You should see some of these Bibles, seriously amazing works of art!!! The ladies are so creative and some of them are messy mixed media geniuses and I feel like I met my new BFFs!

OK... so yesterday I finally had some time to play, so I grabbed a bunch of paint, stencils, and my alpha stickers! I grabbed my NIV Note-Taker's Bible and went to town creating. The kids had to clean their rooms today, so I had LOTS of time to play, LOL! I don't think I'm totally done, I feel like "it needs more", but I'm not sure what yet. I thought I'd share with you what I've got so far anyways.

I used three sheets of Silhouette® printable cotton canvas and painted them. I then cut them and wrapped them along the edges to cover the outside. I then went to town with my Black Faber-Castell® Big Brush, White Sharpie® paint pen and Uni-Ball Signo White Pigment Pen. Some of the adhesive on the canvas pieces got a little too wet so I had to use some Ranger Glossy Accents to adhere them. I also covered the heart with it to give it a little extra texture. I'll probably add some Wink of Stella Glitter brush to it to give it a little sparkle!

For the stamping, I used some of my favorite Studio Calico kit and class stamps. "My Daily Bread" was actually letter stickers that I had initially used as a mask with gold paint underneath. When I took the stickers off, the gold didn't really stand out very much, so I used my Faber-Castell® Big Brush and carefully colored them in.

So, tell me... what do you think is missing, or should I leave it as is? I'll probably cover it with gel medium or spray it with a sealant or something when I'm totally done, just to keep it from fading or rubbing up. I think this is going to be a new weekly series for the blog! I'll share process and tutorials with you probably every Thursday, how does that sound?

Speaking of stamps, I still have the sweepstakes/giveaway going on for two Sweet Stamp Shop stamp sets! They would be totally perfect for our journaling Bibles!
