First, I wanted to decorate the inside of my front cover. I've been thinking of doing this for awhile since I didn't like the look of the painted canvas edges from covering my Bible. Let me take you though my process for decorating the inside of my cover.
- STEP ONE: add a layer of gesso and then I put down some painted deli paper. I used the gesso as glue and then let it dry.
- STEP TWO: Then using a brayer I added my favorite color paint over the top.
- STEP THREE(a): mark - making - first I used a paint brush and a contrasting color to add dashes
- STEP THREE(b): Using a paint marker, I filled in the dashes with white paint
- STEP THREE(c): using my doodle pen, I added more dashes
I didn't like how you could really see the edges of the canvas still, so I added white paint around the edges and re-did some of the marks. You can still see the edge, but I'm much happier with it now.
NOTE: you can see that I used the first page to brush off the paint left on my brushes, this will be a great start making another art journal page in my Bible.
Now let's make a pocket to put in the front!
- First, these scripture memory cards are part of the DIY Ultimate Bundle and I printed them out and cut them and they fit perfectly in the pocket!
- I am trying to use up my scrapbooking stash, and found these premade pockets, I think I got them a Michaels a couple years ago.
- I also had these scripture cards by Lindsey Letters that I got from Studio Calico and taped them to the front side of the pocket. I LOVE ATG tape, it's such a strong hold even over paint.
- Lastly, I taped it on the cover, trying not to cover up the mark making I had done. VOILA! I LOVE how it turned out. If I end up having problems with it sticking I'll eventually glue it down, but I don't think it will be a problem.
